Super in love with these murals... someone should start a similar project in downtown Chilliwack! (Source : A Love Letter For You )

Nobody puts Baby in a corner.

Published by Sarah Sovereign at 10:17 AM

This'll be quick as I'm already in dire danger of being late for work! (And I'm not entirely sure I can make it across town on a thimble full of gas... but I believe in you car! Go car go!)

Yesterday I went to the Capella Dance Studio recital and it was awesome. It reminded me of my old dancing days (I am a girl who took five years of dance and seriously, NO ONE would ever be able to tell because I have the all the grace of an intoxicated elephant) and our old recitals at the Thunder Bay auditorium. I was always the pudgy girl in spandex watching the other dancers and getting a little winded half way through, but I made up for it with a toothless smile and the best darn bowl cut any dancer ever sported. I do love dancing though... oh how I miss my Masset days, turning up the stereo full blast so the whole neighbourhood could enjoy Ping Island Lightning Strike Rescue Op while Melissa, Max and I broke out all our best moves in our living room.

So many projects are going right now and I love it! Lots of planning, many different multitasking things coming about, number one of which is fixing up some postcards for my very favourite White Rabbit. Coming up near to the end of the month is a photo shoot, followed by a giant game that Jenn and I are planning. (Can we say, most awesome scavenger hunt ever?)

I really am now in danger of being late, so I must run. Stumbled in from the recital last night around 12:30 a.m. and Jamie tried to wake me up at 8. I'm pretty sure I rolled over and mumbled something about "SLEEP IN." and then immediately drifted back off to sleep. I leave you with some dancing pictures!

it's a party!

Pretending like I haven't nearly burned the kitchen down several times.

This is my fallback recipe, aka, one of the only things I know how to make. (If you invite me to a potluck, chances are you'll either get this, bruschetta bread, or the best soup ever made.) I got the recipe years ago from my cousin Melissa, and it's just about the simplest recipe ever.

Guacamole!

2 ripe avocados
Generous squirt of lemon & lime respectively
Sprinkle of salt
Sprinkle of pepper
About 1 diced tomato
A bunch of chopped fresh cilantro
1-2 cloves of fresh garlic

Mix all together.

This makes about enough for 2-3 people, I'd wager.

Create With Us!!

Published by Sarah Sovereign at 10:08 PM

Two photo shoots coming up in the next little while!

In June, there is an homage to theater photo shoot coming up with the Player's Guild. Everything is on a volunteer basis, but if you'd like to expand your portfolio and meet some fantastic people, please apply! We are looking for hair and makeup artists for the June shoot!

In August, I'm doing a shoot out in the Ashcroft area. I'm looking for a few models (come one, come all, all shapes, all sizes!) and more hair and make up people, as well as some designers / people with some mad sewing skills to help me whip up some amazing costumes. Everyone involved is doing it for free (or at the very least for food!) so there will be no compensation, but again, this is an amazing way to build your portfolio and meet some great people.

Email me to get involved!

Last night I dreamt of

Published by Sarah Sovereign at 6:20 PM

top hats, gold princess dresses and a giant, smelly sheepskin suit featuring matted sheep hair circa 1972. In the planning of a new photo shoot (this one bigger and badder than ever!) the A Team and I (I've decided we should probably name ourselves something awesome, myself and this rowdy bunch of photoshooters, but I haven't been able to quite stick to a name yet. I think I might experiment a bit before really committing us to one name or the other.) So anyways, as I was saying, myself and the Sparkling Effervescent Unicorns got to raid the costume closet at the Arts Centre and it BLEW MY MIND. They have the neatest things!

Patterned fabric dresses that make my eyes bleed with the contrasty, busy awesomeness, flapper dresses, purple ties, striped '20s jackets and dresses fit for any 50's Prom Queen were paraded out and hung with care to be used in June when we start shooting.

I photographically cataloged each item, which was quite fun and something I'm seriously considering doing with my own costumes. Below is one such costume... can't wait for the next meeting. In the meantime, I'm sketching like a madwoman and jotting down ideas about space, colour, and the Voguest manner of makeup we can acquire.

MY OWN PLACE!!!

Published by Sarah Sovereign at 3:07 PM

Last Sunday Jamie and I moved and things are glorious!

I've got T-minus 30 minutes until I have to be in work uniform and placed firmly behind the counter, but in the meantime, more updates are promised soon! I am working on a new photo project amongst other ideas and developments, and all of this is much easier to accomplish from behind my shiny desk in my shiny new apartment looking at the shiny mountains out my window. Pictures of the place to come as soon as I have time. Jax is thoroughly enjoying his life as a cat of leisure, this time with his own little patch of sunlight and snuggly blankets. The other day I opened up our door, which has a balcony that adjoins with the neighbours, and he whipped out (as though he had planned it), crossed onto the neighbour's balcony, and bolted into their open balcony door. He was in their apartment for roughly five minutes while I freaked out like a crazy person outside shaking Temptations cat treats and purr-calling him into the night. I like to think he did something kind of amazing with those five minutes. ... like planted top secret feline spyware or wrote them an incredibly touching nice to meet you letter in perfect penmanship. You know. Instead of scratching their furniture like a maniac.

Eventually he came back and now can be seen gazing wistfully out the window, longingly waiting for his second chance at freedom. Ah! Twenty minutes. Off to work I go!
