1. Taking a page from Hula Seventy and making a list a week until 2011. I've already grabbed my Music Listography journal and am writing down about the music that has defined my 27 years on earth. I could probably go and make lists all day long, except for the fact that then I wouldn't have any money and wouldn't be able to...

2. MOVE INTO THE SUPER AWESOME APARTMENT I'M MOVING INTO ON SUNDAY!!! I am so excited about organizing things and setting everything up. I have slaved over small, seemingly inconsequential decisions as well, such as what shower curtain we should use, and what our dinnerware will look like. In fact, I will be going out and buying those items today! Buying home stuff is pretty much near the top of my list for awesomeness in shopping expeditions.

3. My new camera. I will be getting it as soon as possible. It's going to shoot little videos, which will be fantastic considering I'm thinking about making a short film within the next year, and maybe doing some more stop motion. I am still torn between the Canon 7D and the Rebel T2i, not to mention my strong desire to also invest in some beautiful prime lenses.

4. BUT! In the meantime, I have a very exciting project coming up sooner rather than later, involving an old theatre and some amazing people. More on this as the project develops!

5. And yet another photo shoot coming up! This one more fashion oriented. I went to a consignment clothing store in the states last month and picked up a bevy of delightful dresses which I plan to pair with fun boots and multicoloured tights. There is a field by my house that is starting to grow wildflowers, and if they leave it until mid-May it will look AMAZING. Jamie and I went once just before night fell and took fish eye pictures amongst the flowers and it was just about the prettiest thing ever.

6. One of my dear best friends Melissa will be giving birth to her first baby any day now! Hurry up, Baby!

7. And for that matter, how much would it cost to road trip it back to Ontario this summer? Probably more than I currently have, but I do plan -- and sometime soon -- to do a photo road trip extravaganza. It's just going to take a solid mixture of time, money, and the perfect soundtrack.

Straight from Alberta and into my heart.

Via tinywarbler: Beautiful log bowls! Such a lovely idea and so colourful. I have a crazy bowl crafted out of the root of a tree... I'm bringing it along to the new apartment with me, and Jamie and I were attempting to figure out exactly what to do with it. You can't eat out of it, it's too big to use as a candy dish ... and let's face it, candy would never stay in there long enough to look decorative, ... guess we'll figure it out when we get into the apartment! In the meantime, these just knock my socks right off. (Image and source: Loyal loot).

A List

Published by Sarah Sovereign at 6:46 PM

1. Went to the States (Washington, to be exact) with my mom yesterday. We shopped until we almost literally dropped, took a scenic drive around Lynden (such a pretty little place!) and found a lovely consignment store with incredibly affordable bits of fashionable awesome. I picked up three dresses for photo shoots, including a delightful green country style dress, a purple dress I fully intend to hand over to Macey for refashioning, AND this crazy early 90's party dress that is going to look amazing with leggings. All for under twenty dollars. SWOON.

2. Speaking of photo shoots, I'm working on putting some new ones together. Now that school is finished for awhile I have time to work on the myriad projects and jobs I've had waiting in the wings all semester. My plan is to drag a whole a convoy out to Ashcroft and shoot some fashion things in amongst the wild sage. Anyone interested in being involved, just leave a comment!

3. I intend on messing around with colour film again soon, as well! Specifically using some awesome former crime scene photography cameras I scored from Dallettes' dad last time I was in Thunder Bay. I'd like to mess around with old school spirit photography techniques.

4. Modernist Dollhouses. LOVE. (Link from Design Is Mine).

Memory Project

Published by Sarah Sovereign at 6:36 PM

What is memory? It's strange, sometimes, the things that remind me of other people. This is for my final project in Photo 3 (and by far the easiest and most fun project left in my semester... two essays, ... Arrrrgh!) and consists of images of objects associated with my memories of other people, all taken in a crime scene like manner ... but without the grossness.

I'll photograph the final version as soon as it's done. In the meantime, you can mosey on over to my flickr to view what I have thus far.

Amy Nieto. Dove.

Melissa Sovereign. Fleetwood Mac.

Nan Gray. Seagull magnet.

Apartment Wishlist!

Published by Sarah Sovereign at 3:17 PM

I will be moving out at the beginning of May and I am so excited, I think I've been walking around the last two in a daze of happiness whilst inwardly sorting out what I'm taking with me and what I'm donating to a yard sale. I've got a pile of books, and most of them are coming with me, but my furniture is pretty sparse. Traveling across Canada in a teeny tiny car generally cuts down on the amount of bookcases, giant trunks, etc one can bring from Ontario. Besides my art desk, my book case, and perhaps a beat up, in need of re-varnishing cedar chest, I don't have a lot. I've already packed up 8 boxes, and those are all books. Hmm.

Moving puts me in mind of some of my dream apartment wishlist items. Here are a few things I'd pack into our two bedroom unit if I could bring anything:

Art School Updates

Published by Sarah Sovereign at 7:31 PM

I've been working forever on a stop motion film. I posted the nearly-almost-kind-of-finished version up on Vimeo and YouTube a few weeks ago, but only recently polished up the final version. It's currently on display at the UFV art gallery, resting ever so lovingly in a cedar owl sized movie theatre box crafted by my super talented carpenter boyfriend.

I had a helluva time deciding on the soundtrack for the film, but finally settled on "The Coo Coo Bird" by The Be Good Tanyas. It's a song that reminds me of driving down the road to North Beach with my cousin Melissa, belting it out in our beloved and broken 4x4 "Pearl". The second part of the film features "White Winter Hymnal" by Fleet Foxes, whose whole album is kind of amazing. The video for Fleet Foxes is also amazing and stop motion as well. The final song in the film is "Melody of A Fallen Tree" by Windsor for the Derby.

I went through a few songs to reach the final set though, and discovered some great tunes along the way. If I were crafting a soundtrack for the film I'd maybe also include Baby Birch by Joanna Newsom and Little Life by Josephine Foster.

Totally unrelated to art school as well, but my parents got a new dog! He is a poodle spaniel breed of awesome, and he's currently stretched out beside the computer desk just chillaxing. He is super friendly, and still, even to Jax, who sneaks up like a ninja and strikes out at him every available chance. I will have pictures of him soon!

Finally, the semester is winding down and I have some big projects due. I finished my giant sized Ophelia portrait, which was an adventure in developing as the paper was too big for the developing tray, but now that that's finished, I get to work on a series in the vernacular. My plan is to photograph a series of seemingly innocuous objects and... well, it goes on from there. I'm still working out the exact plan of the project, but here's a sneak peek! :

The perfect answer to a rainy day

Published by Sarah Sovereign at 10:42 AM

Sent to me via mail by my good friend Alicia. It's a great suggestion for the current dreariness outside. What am I reading though? Love In the Time of Cholera and for lighter but still oh so awesome reading, Dreamdark : Silksinger.
